Data/internet issue -file corruption - slow internet

Hey,

I recently built myself a computer

*LINK HERE*

Had all been going fine since then... but I noticed many of my files downloading were randomly failing and some ended up corrupt - wasn't too much of an issue, just set them to download again and they eventually downloaded successfully.

Recently my computers internet speed has dropped drastically (wireless connection) - with internet speeds of virtually nothing for long stretches of time, my old computer has also started having slower than average speeds but is still usable - a good 15x the internet speed of my new computer.

At first I thought it had to be malware - scanned all files - nothing - downloaded and ran malwarebytes - still nothing... decided the only course of action was to restore the computer from a previous backup - tried to restore it but for some reason it failed, telling me my antivirus was likely preventing a successful restoration.

Then I realised the downloads corrupting and the internet speed issues might be linked - searched around and found that this might be a RAM issue, having previously suspected the RAM for my POST failure when initially booting up my PC for the first time but then finding as far as I can tell that it just needed to be removed and put back in again - seemed reasonable that my RAM could be faulty but have no idea what to do from there.

I also stumbled across the idea that my old router could be less compatible with my new computer - but that wouldn't explain the recent slow down in speeds unless it has magnified my recent internet speed slowdown.

Please could someone with a better knowledge of computers tell me what they would do in this situation?

Also if I find that I must restore my PC from a backup - Do I need to recreate/re-download all the programs/games/files or can I safely back them up and reinstall without the chance of the malware re-infecting my computer? (if my internet speed issue is indeed malware)

Thanks your your time.

Well i would do the following until the fault resolved.

1. reset router

2. test the PC with an ethernet cable to rule out wireless problems

3. Try running speed test on your phone and pc, compare results and it there both poor get your ISP to look at the line.

4. uninstall then reinstall you browser or try a new one, chrome has a habit of slowing down when the cash becomes full, google how to clear the cash if you think its that.

5. If you think its a ram issue run memtest to prove its faulty or fine.

6. get a live cd of something like ubuntu and run speedtest, if the results vary massivly your best bet is a new windows install

Hope one of them helps

I worked out what was wrong, the wireless adapter plugged into my PC for my 360 pad was effectively jamming the routers signal... good job I don't play any online games with the 360 pad :)

- Yes I know that it is possible to change my routers channel

Thanks for your help
