OK for all those people obessed with the Data Protection Act (like myself) I have an interesting query.

So I was requesting some back-dated bank statements of which I needed six, each four pages in length. The nice lady I was talking to said that it would be... £10 per page!!!!!

Hysterical laughter soon followed about the prospect of paying £180 for some paper and pondering that it will probally be written on human skin and delivered via horse back.... But then I remembered the good ole data protection act. Doesn't it state that I can request any information they have on me for a minium of £10? Do banks in the UK follow different laws?

Thoughts?

Iirc you're entitled to 6 years worth of back bank statements free of charge.

Doesn't stop them trying to charge you though ;)

Personally I'd print them straight off my online banking though, save a lot of hassle.

The rules state it's £10 for each subject request under DPA.

I cannot find any definition of what a request may be, so I can't say whether each page would class as one request (which is how the bank are charging it) or whether that is lawful.

Yea I would do that.. but because the bank I am with is so crap the online banking only goes back 4 months!!!

And yea... my maths was wrong... it was £240!!!! Maybe that'll get them air-dropped in to my street. :D

Phone them back. It's £10 per request for all the statements. If they have a problem, tell them that you'll report them to the Data Commissioner.
