Hi

My hard drive has broken.

When I start my computer just before it gets to login the hard drive turns off.

What software is available that I can use to recover data from this broken hard drive?

I cannot get into Windows so I need a program that can boot from CD

Thanks lads :D

Remove the hard drive and connect it to another PC as a slave drive. Then run Get Data Back. Job done ;)

Or download Knoppix and use it to boot your system with and recover the files that way.

thanks for the response

ive searched knoppix not too sure what is is...

would i be installing linux onto the computer and trying to the find the files that way?

my friend told me he had a program that he used that would run before you log into windows which he used to recover his data

anyone know what that program is?

Ive used Active Undelete 7 in the past. You can create a bootable CD, much like a linux live enviroment. It has some good tools for recovering data and repairing bad sectors on hard drives. It also has a file explorer, and lets you view files from the hard drive before you recover.
