Hi again one and all. My old system had several HDD's operating under Win XP pro (32). When I was upgrading my PSU and fans I must have screwed something up and my mobo is now dead. Now is there any way of getting my old HDD's and running them like an external HDD? ie. if there is a power supply for them is there such a thing as an sata to USB cable where I can plug them in externally?
I know i could just connect them up to my new system but all the HDD connections are taken and there is no way I am cracking open a custom OCUK build and risking screwing that up
So it might be a very stupid question, but if I don't ask I'll never know ;)

Fan-bloody-tastic ..... that is just what I'm looking for .... thanyou, thankyou, thankyou .... :D

oh just one more question ..... one of my old drives has windows XP installed ... if I use this adapter can I access files from that same drive? I mean it won't try and run Windows or anything like that will it??? Yes another silly question I know but ..... ???

Not if you're inside windows when it's plugged in, if you boot with it plugged in depending on your boot order set in the bios it might try and boot from the drive yes.

Ok so as long as the computer is on and Windows is up and running it will behave as if I've just plugged in a portable USB HDD ... that's great .. thanks for everybodies help ... :D

no i didn#t have a user name or password setup for windows, it just went straight to desktop when I booted it up. All I want from the OS drive is my music and my photos. My other drives are where I stored all my games and stuff. But most of all I wanted to save the family photos ...huh and all I tried to do was replace my PSU and fans ... and look what a problem I created !!! It must have been static because I was really careful with everything I did ...:(
