I've got an old Samsung external HDD I've had for some time, I generally used it as a download dump, so there's nothing really important on there, but it'd save me a lot of hassle if I could recover the data.

For ages it's been playing up, saying 'USB device not recognised' and required multiple attempts to start up which only worked on some USB ports and eventually only on my laptop. It finally decided that it would not be recognised at all so I stripped it down to find a 3.5" Hitachi DeathStar inside which I installed inside my PC. Like it did externally, it spins up and sounds like it's about to run normally, but then nothing happens. It's not recognised anywhere, device manager, disk management or anything.

It's not making the click of death but it spins up like a healthy drive then nothing happens. I can't run any recovery programs on it as the program can't find it! Any ideas on where to start?
