Not sure were to ask this, so ill try here.

Friend of mine has a Siemens laptop, he was on it the otherday and his daughter pressed something on bootup. Not sure what, but when ive had a look it looks like some recovery system has reinstalled all the OS over the top of original. But at the same time, it almost looks as if its been formatted too?

Anyway, he had some very important files on there (that he didnt backup) that he wanted to try and get back.

Ive found them using GetDataBack and also O&O Disk Recovery, however when i save them they are corrupt. There are many versions of the said file, in odd places, such as program files/norton and /power dv etc.

Ive tried a few excel repair tools but to no avail,

question i have is, is there anything else i can do? Any other more powerful software ?

Thanks for any help :)

Its likely she has accessed the recovery partition of the laptop (which I always remove to avoid this very scenario), and then chosen to return the laptop to its original state. This will have re-installed windows and its more than likely its written over the files that were there and you are seeing fragments of them which is why they are corrupt.

GetDataBack is one of the strongest pieces of software in my arsenal at least.

I think he's stuffed imo.
