hi all

My 360 died the other day (shame as it was a release day console!) with the RROD thing.....my lovely darling lady brought me a brand new 360 elite on sunday to replace it!!

however, I would like to recover stuff from the old 12gig hdd but I dont want to fork out for the data transfer cable if it wont work cuz the old 360 wont turn on.

so this is probably a stupid question but I assume I cannot transfer the data off the old HDD because I cant turn the 360 on?

free? from where? I found several on the bay.....

I know it detaches but I assume thats not going to help as it needs to be powered for the heads to spin so that data can be read from it?

You order the cable from Microsoft themselves. The people selling theirs on eBay are just scum tbh. There's even a thread on here of people lending theirs out.

Here's the official Microsoft link for you: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936860/?sd=xbox

The cable powers the drive you are copying from over USB, and obviously the new drive is attached to the machine. The old Xbox is not needed at all.
