First game was counter strike i think, i originally joined because some of my college mates at the time played it and i deicded to join in, just happened to be 5 or so months before CSS came out and i instantly got straight into that

I'm thinking that must have been the time CS:S went pre-order or something, never liked CS but got it because it was the first Source engined game, before HL2 iirc.

Sep. 12th was when Steam was released.

I bought halflife 2 on release day and it insisted on me having a steam account - so whenever that was.

I remember the ultra-hatred of steam at the time. People were going absolutely ballistic about it. Strange times .. nowadays I wouldn't want to live without it!

Later than I thought. My mate bought HL-2 and decided to give it to me, so put it on my dads PC when we still had dial up.

Took for ever for it to download and install. Finally got to play the game and it was so stuttery, boxes and stuff would only appear when you walk 5cm in front of them the draw distance was so bad.
