Dave Chappelle: The Dreamer

Saw it earlier and will give it a watch in the next couple of days or so I think. Haven't seen any of his i've enjoyed anywhere near as much as the Chappelle show though tbh!

Pretty meh just like Gervais’s.

Chapelle was truly brilliant back in the day as well, a level above Gervais (who I also used to enjoy) so it’s a bit depressing seeing him pump out average stuff for the past few years.

I feel like there must be some kind of cutoff age where you just stop being as funny for whatever reasons. George Carlin being an exception.

Haven't had a chance to watch this but he's probably my favourite comedian currently and that I've seen perform live. I always thought he was hilarious even with the rubbish Half Baked film but seeing him live made me realise just how much he perfected his craft.

Him and Damian Marley were randomly in Bristol a few years back and he did a little mini set at a random pub lol.

Laughed more in the opening 10 than the entirety of armageddon. Sits in the middle of his recent stuff for me but still ***** on every other current stand up.

Carlin is over rated :p

Chappelle Show damn-near gave me kidney failure! The homeless guy and racist blind man skits were too good. I'm going to re-watch it on Netflix, thanks for the reminder :D

Just a shame they tried to do him over so badly with that show. Part of the reason as much as I enjoyed it I don't feel like watching it
You should watch them again tbh, seems to have made his peace with cc as he's finally got some cash and there's still some bangers in there that will tickle the old funny bone if you haven't seen them in an age. Maybe not quite as fresh if you've watched any key and peele as that's fairly derivative of the chappelle show.

A fair few of them live rent free in my head. Player Haters Ball, world championship of dice (ashy Larry, Marcy projects, son) Niggar Family and of course our favourite KKK member!

I’m a big fan of Chappelle although he was a little more ‘troll-like’ than usual at the start of this special, which is something I’d normally associate with lesser comedians.

I saw a version of this material live in London although it was substantially different. When I saw it in person, he talked much more about his time in strip clubs and talked about the mistakes of cheating on his wife. He also put more emphasis on the theme that times where you’re absolutely sure of yourself are actually the times where you’re most prone to being wrong, assuming or not listening.

Already wanting more…!

Was that on the Chris Rock tour? Really enjoyed that night. Even the supporting acts were great, Ali Wong especially

It was :)

Ali Wong was funny but she very abruptly ended her set, if I recall correctly. There was two nights so not sure if we went to the same one!

The other memorable thing I recall is that Jeff Ross (the roastmaster) really shocked the audience - massive gasps all round, rather than laughs - by asking two young black men from the audience that had gone on stage for a roast…… if they were both suspects in the Notting Hill Carnival stabbing the previous week

We went to the show on the 3rd. Ha Jeff Ross was in top form that night. I can't fully remember those two guys but I remember one guy going on stage and not enjoying it at all. Then he was roasting the queen, no one was off limits. EarthQuake was decent too. I was a bit sad Donnel Rawlings was there but didn't do any jokes.

Yup was the same night then. Haha my brother’s wife really didn’t like him going after the queen… I thought it was pretty funny but perhaps I’m tasteless :D

Really random question and I've no idea if you'd remember or not. Dave walked out to a song of some sort that I can't find. All I can remember are the words "this is what you get" or something. No idea what it was have you?

My main takeway from that night was; there are levels to this game. I saw Chris Rock a few years back in Cardiff. Great show. But seeing him back-to-back with Dave was an eye opener. The difference in quality of their story telling was so apparent. Felt like Chris kept going back and stumbling lines but Dave just talked funny.
