Dave Orton gone from ati

I would have expected this - Orton would have felt too constrained being just a rung in the corporate ladder.

AMD also look as if they've had to make the shareholders happy by finding a scapegoat..

this was expected. next step is the repace the entire engineering team. finally things should be going in the right direction for ati.

What ARE you on about!?!?!?!

One bloke does NOT make a company, he might have put a lot of effort into it but he wants a change and fair play to him.

Why replace the engineering team, what have they done wrong?

X800 - very good card
X1900 - another very good card
HD 2900XT - an excellent card aswell just suited to the new type of shader engines!

Seems he hasnt been happy since the acquisition. Shame tbh.
I bet his salary and stock option plans make up for that, I can only assume his salary is the same as ine but with an extra 0 at the end :D

Well that explains the lack of progress in the last 6 months.

I have thought as part of the sale Orton had his marching orders. Just a matter of time.

Overall I don't seen his performance over his latter reign (pre-amd) much to shout about either. Nice bloke and all but the R600 did fall short - I suspect that the company was being prepared for acquisition anyway.

Oh yea forgot, clearly he knows how to build a GPU from the ground up and could do a better job from his armchair than any of the Enjys or Presidents of the company :D

Same can be said for mosta the beyond 3d armchair engineers, that forum scares me..so many more informed people than the engineers actually making the gpu's.
