I would LOVE to see tim westwood submerged in water for a week - that i would watch

edit: theres was a proggie on sky 1 the other day about this marshall arts expert monk guy (you know the type :P) who could stay submerged in water for 10 mins without air

That made me chuckle :p you can do about two tricks with a raven. Blaine does a whole ONE in his entire routine. He doesn't use invisible elastic either. Did you just type magic into ebay and pick the first two items?

Buying a 'trick' is one thing, mastering it is another.

Far from me to slate another magician, but Blaine is totally overrated as a magician. All he did was bring magic back into the public eye again. Shame he's turned to pointless feats such as this. If someone paid me what he earns to sit in water for a week, I'd do it too. Hell, i'd do a fortnight for the same price! :D
 
I'll only consider it a true feat of endurance if he can do the entire 7 days with "It's Chico Time" playing in a never-ending loop.

No I didn't look on google , as i said - Ebay has practically every known trick & how its done, all the magnets ,thumb pens, broken coins etc - People make money by exposing how tricks are done , you pay for the secret & the gizmo ,

Can I be the first to say that I think David Blaine is wonderful and I watch all his shows.
Perhaps its my age.

On saturday in the pub a bloke asked me if I wanted to see some close magic and he did about ten of Blaines card tricks and there was only one where I saw how he did it. I was suitably impressed and totally sober.

And as for the water trick with your hand, I often go the toilet, run the tap and put my hand underneath it so that I wee quicker and it does work.
Perhaps its my age again.

So what is your point? You can get these things from loads of places... magictricks.co.uk for example, its not exactly hidden.

Ebay carries the same tricks that have been around for years and the same gadgets that have been found in marvin's magic set. This doesn't make you a magician. Hell, I can figure out how *most* effects are accomplished, that doesn't stop them from being entertaining. If anything, seeing someone perform something flawlessly when you know how its done, its even more mesmerising.

Speak to any magician about Blaine, and they'll be able to list every effect, prop, gimmick and manouvere he uses. He relies heavily on self-working and 'gimmicked' effects where there is less sleight of hand or skill involved. Anyone who has seen his levitation (the balducci btw) will have seen how blatantly camera tricked it is.

The fact is, there is only a certain amount of 'street magic' that he can perform, and even less that is entertaining enough for broadcast. I'd go as far as to say he has changed directions because his reportoire is too limited to continue as he was.

EDIT - The really impressive secrets run into hundreds and thousands of pounds to obtain - believe me on that one :p

Exactly, My point was simply replying to another poster who thinks that Blaines magic is unbelievable & I am just pointing out that its available to everyone who's interested & not a huge worldwide secret
