David Lynch passes away

Absolutely admire his version of Frank Herbert's Dune despite the production problems...it's very dreamlike in places and outer worldly...I found the three hour fan edit version years ago that is superior to the butchered theatrical version. Made me appreciate it even more.
There's a 3 hour fan edit version? I'm going to have to google that! I loved his adaptation of it. Probably more to do with my age when I saw it (ie a kid!) but the new one just hasn;t captured my imagination like Lynch's version.

I loved his work - Twin peaks was brilliant (especially the first series), and Eraserhead is still probably the most weirdly disturbing film I've seen.

There is also an extended version of Blue Velvet kicking about, it adds quite a lot of cut footage. The released film is absolutely perfect as is, but it is cool to see the extra scenes of exposition. Blue Velvet is probably my number one film. I've seen it so many times that it has got to the stage on each viewing I watch one specific character for the whole film to fully see their input and reactions. The one to watch out for is the third one of Franks three goons, not Brad Dourif, not Jack Nance, the other one called Hunter. Watch how he reacts to Frank whenever Frank does anything violent, i.e. in Ben's house and in the car, it shows just how he is terrified of Frank himself. It really is quite a subtle bit of acting, and you know that is exactly what David Lynch directed.

I always used to look forward to his signature "and if yoooooooooou can believe it! It's Friday once again!" on his daily youtube broadcast. RIP Hope it was nothing to do with the fire or smoke in LA, it can't have helped.

Yes it was compiled by film fan Spicediver (thanks) who did three different fan edits over the years (V2.0 is my favourite), in which he reinserted footage shown during a US TV special plus deleted scenes...also a different introduction...other effects were also added to improve continuity. I saw the original as a teenager round a friend's house and it had me hooked and always enjoy watching it.

My wife grew up in the "the movement" (FIL was the Maharishis right hand man for a while) I met a couple of her friends in at a reunion in Fairfield Iowa who work for his foundation in NYC, David was a nice guy by all accounts.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1598782/ amusing watch and an interesting bunch. It's all a bit weird...

Honestly I hadn't heard of him. So what I did is Google to find out who he was rather than just write an obnoxious "who?" as we often see in these things.

One of the goat directors imo

I can think of so many memorable scenes from his work

- Bob climbing through the window in the original Twin Peaks
- The 10 minute arthouse Nuke scene in the modern Twin Peaks
- Mystery Man introduction in Lost Highway
- Diner scene in Mullholland drive

Thanks. I managed to find a copy on one of the newsgroup indexing sites I use: "Dune.The.Alternative.Edition.Redux.1984.FANRES.DVD.REMUX.DD.2.0-MOIIZT" which looks like it might be the one.

I'll give it a gander
