I've sold my ER5 to a mate of mine and need to ride it over his house as he hasn't done his test yet (he's going to be doing his CBT and DAS soon but maybe not for a month or two)

Problem is that I've now insured my FZ6 (the ER5 replacement) so the ER5 is sat on my driveway uninsured. I thought that the riding other bikes part of my insurance would cover me on the ER5 however it doesn't apply unless the other bike is insured which it isn't. My mate can't insure it either as he doesn't yet have his license. Catch 22.

Anyone got any ideas how I can get the bike over to his house? I tried finding a day insurance company but they all seem to have stopped doing it and my own insurance won't let me add the bike for a day either.

Borrow or hire a trailer/van?

Why does your friend need it at his until he's passed his test anyway? I'd say it was more his responsibility to pick it up than yours to deliver it.

Day insurance doesn't exist, I was in the same situation but with my 125, I rang round loads of places. There was 1 but I hadn't held my license for long enough for the T+Cs even though it was a 125!

In the end the new owner insured it (but hadn't done their CBT) so I rode it to their house. Which is iffy as I would still be the registered keeper on the V5 but not owner as they had paid me and had a receipt.

How old are you and how old is the bike? I'm sure I've seen day insurance for bikes before, but most of them require the rider to be at least 21 or 25, and have had their licence for over 12 months. Can't remember which companies though, I'll see if I can find out.

If it's "His" bike now your insurance should cover you to ride anybody elses bike ? Mine does.
Shame you weren't local I'd deliver it for you.

If not ring your insurance & ask how much to cover you 3rd party on other peoples bike/bikes worth a shot.

I just read your post properly, What a pain.

No, your insurance will cover you to ride anyone elses bike as long as it is insured by someone.

Yer just saw that, *****. + :p

I had this with my ZX7R, Couldn't get any insurance because I hadn't passed my test. I didn't mention it before what with it being a public forum and all that. :p

All legal now.

It was flexirider I tried but check out their site

"Unfortunately with effect from 30th April 2012 we will no longer be able to offer temporary insurance on motorbikes or scooters."

Ah seems you're right! Hadn't bothered clicking get a quote because I would have thought they'd have a big bloody notice if they'd ceased offering insurance! Shame really.

He's happy enough to leave it at mine but I've got a car, a ZX6R, a FZ6N the ER5, a couple of mountain bikes and a couple of road bikes so I kinda would like some space back in my garage!

That depends on the particular policy, it's not always a requirement for the other bike to be insured separately.

eidolon, have you asked you own insurers if they will put it on your policy for temporary cover?

Yep, they don't offer that nor can I ride the bike unless it's insured elsewhere. :(
