Day of Defeat Source - Achievements

I miss the original DOD, used to love Merderet, I was one of those lame campers in the axis side of the bridge on the ledge behind the ladder with a deployed 30 cal ;) you could rack up stupid amounts of kills by camping there.

I still love a game of DODS myself.

However, it is getting a bit long in the tooth now and they do need to make some serious updates, the last update just wasn't enough imo. Not even a couple more maps is enough, they should make definitely add some extra theaters of war to the game.

I thought they bought out the DoD development team similar to what they did when they took over CS and got Cliffe and Gooseman on board. Am i wrong..? If not then it would be strange to think what that team actually do at valve

Used to be a hardcore DoDS player but I stopped over a year ago... recently picked it up again a few weeks back and trying to get achievements :) if anyone wants to play, then add me (Steam username Sumanji - I have 2 accounts).

One lame thing though, how do you stop spectators appearing in the server list making it look like a populated server? Bloody annoying!

Cheers,

Suman

Achievements ruin some games, rather than just playing people focus on not really helping and doing certain tasks.

-It should also be completly skill based if you have them, un-like most of TF2's I've already done most of these but did them before the achivement came out, rewards.
-Or the stupid "hold x button down for 500 hours".
-Not forgetting the complete random luck one's.

Lastly, when you throw in actual rewards like weapons, well... to me it made so much of a change I just stopped playing the day the pyro one came out. I don't know it was fun when it was just people concentrating on playing not achievments :(

Also hard for me to pick up knowing other people have weapons I don't and need to spend time getting them...grind fest.

Do people actually like them these days?

YOU KILLED 10 PEOPLE WITH X GUN Whoopdy ******* doo?!
Do kids these days feel special with it?
Everyone's a winner!!!! no losers! :(

RO>DODS

But DODS is far better then the bloody piece of **** that is CS of anyversion

Yeah I agree tbh. Competitive games should not have unlockable content or 'ranks', and achievements ultimately mean that some people are playing to get them not to win the game. Save that kind of crap for MMOs IMO.

But it can also encourage people to play a wider more expansive game, to obtain certain achievements, like playing using different weapons than you would normally, or capping more flags, ect..
But I also see your point, it does do that too.

DOD original was coded by L. S. Lowrie....graphics were awful (although I only had the **cough**priveledge once DOD:s had already hit).
I guess it was good graphics for its day:p

For those interested I will set up a time we can all meet and "play" with the achievements.
The server will be here:
195.149.21.213:27035

When are you all available ??

Some of these achievements I could never bother getting like 150 spade kills? Probably take me about a 6-7 months of more dod before I got close. I imagine I get one kill per map cycle

It took me a couple of nights....it all depends on what map you go on and level of sneakiness
