Does anyone play this?

I got it with CS:S as a free game that they sold it with and i think its great :D
So far ive played it much more then CS:S.

You dont get people bouncing around jumping when you are shooting at them and usually you are dead with in one or 2 bullets so its pretty realistic.
It takes a lot more Strategy and thinking then CS:S does i find :)

If you dont have it i suggest you give it a go, I ended up playing it non stop all night last night :o

Been playing DoD since its 1.3b days.

I'm a member of the webstaff over at the Valve DoD forums, have been for a few years now. Beta tested the last 3 versions of Day of Defeat.

I'm also in one of the longest running DoD UK clans, [TFS]The Firing Squad.

DoD:S was a bold move from the dev team, not considered a good move by some folk, but I've got used to it.

It's a fantastic online game in my opinion, certainly a bit different than CS:S, but it has its own plus points and merits over that.

Glad you are enjoying playing it. Stop over at our server sometime, its a nice place to play. Tell 'em [TFS]Loco recommended it to you.

I play it nearly Everynight sometimes on [TFS], heaven forbid :D

Great game and underated. I too started at 1.3 regular dod and liek source very very much too.

Hi,

I play dods from time to time, if you have xfire add me :)

I bought CS;S retail which happened to come with DOD:S. I've ended up playing DOD:S and getting really into it and haven't really touched CS:S at all. Like you said, there are much less people that fool around and ruin the game like there are in other games such as CS:S or COD2 etc.

Great game :)

I like it, but don't play it nearly as much as CSS. Feels a bit "clumsy" to me, in terms of movement and such. Also, the games often seem to end with one team thrashing the other team by racing to a certain point incredibly quickly. And the maps can end up in stalemates as they rely on a few very tight corridors of action.

Really I need to play it properly. Was probably on some crap servers when I developed these opinions :) Can people recommend servers then? xfire joeyjojo818

I cant remember the rules here, not sure if we can "pimp our servers", but I'll post this anyway.

Ours is at:-

83.142.49.2:27015

[TFS]The Firing Squad DoD:S server.

We have recently moved to another server rental company and this one seems to play much better than the previous one.

It's a good place to play, although we are still setting up all the admin side of things on the new server box. Its usually a friendly, fun and well admined server, with no idiots tolerated.

Im glad to see a lot of people are like me and Play DOD:S more then CS:S even though it just came with CS:S :p

Im adding the server that was posted to my favorites list now :)

Only thing I don't like about DoD:S is the iron sights, but other than that I enjoy it a lot, especially annoying machinegunners with rifle grenades. If I do play it's usually on one of the DA-UK servers.

Is it worth parting with £15 ($37.50 Australian for you Zip) to get CS:S and DOD:S?

How long has CS:S been out?
I play lots of Call of Duty 2, so should I like CS:S?
Thanks :)

Cant get into DOD:S personally.

The time it takes to go from scoped to non-scoped is really slow compared to CS:S.

More realistic, but I prefer the faster pace of CS:S.
If i wanted a stratagy game I'd play CoH :D

Are you saying this game has proper anti-bunny code? If so I might check it out. Bunny hoping is my number one fps hate. Are you allowed to pick up more than one gun like in COD2, cos that ticks me off as well.

Nope, just the one gun. Jumping takes a huge chunk from the endurance bar so is used only when needed.

Personally I find DoD:S to be a bit mediocre. For realism I'd rather play Red Orchestra (not that I own it) and for a fast pace I'd rather play HL2DM. DoD is just a middle ground that was fun when I started but soon got a bit boring and repetitive.
In my case, run toward flag, die, respawn, run toward flag. I spend more time walking than anything else. Probably because I've always played assault and playing on a pub I'll often be the only person actually capping flags, and I don't play anywhere near enough to really find a good private server. At any rate R:O is a much more involving game.

I don't think it's fair to compare Red Orchestra and DoD:S. Although the same theme the two games are designed for different styles of gameplay. RO is a lot of fun for realistic infantry combat (I haven't played many tank maps) whereas DoD:S is more DM style.

I've play DoD since 1.3b also, I must say I didn't take to DoD:S but gave it another go following the Jagd update. I persevered and I do quite enjoy the odd game now. I still get the rose tinted glasses out and play 1.3b and 3.1, shame they're aren't that many servers around though...

RO is a completely different game though (which I also enjoy) far slower paced and teamwork is pretty much needed to overcome the enemy. Both games are good fun but satisfy different needs.

It might not make much sense, but this is actually my point. There are better DM-style games and there are better war realism games. Don't really have a reason to play DoD:S. Completely subjective of course so please ignore my opinion all you like :)
