Microsoft's launch of Vista and Games for Windows has the potential to shake up the video game industry. Getting the power of the 800 lb. gorilla to drive Windows and the PC as an elite gaming platform is fantastic. Sure, Vista has brought with it technical challenges. It has also introduced some mighty features like a multi-core friendly OS, cross-platform communication and DirectX 10. Adjusting to these new technologies is expensive, but I believe that in the long term the investment will be well worth it for us, our partners, their gaming customers and the entire PC gaming industry.

I really don't think so. If anything it's the other way around.

Anyone can use a console, no installs, no setup, it just works and is a lot cheaper than a pc that can do the same thing and never crashes. Then there's the brand loyalty, people want to be seen with one of the new consoles, and then there's the console exclusive games.

Directx 10 and dual core is never going to change that, it's just another technology like dx9 and 64 bit processors were, nothing ever happened with those features.

And as for digital distribution and not having to carry cds with you, all I have to say is, no-cd cracks.

I would think it is the opposite.

Too many disadvantages it comes with - expensive, incomparability, lack of exclusive games, games cannot be copied to other system (on console, you can just borrow a game off your friend) and so on.

I just think it is too expensive, graphic doesn't look pretty unless you fork out more £££ for better graphic card but they're over-rated and over-priced, always bundled with rubbish games.

I guess I'm being too negative but I think pc gaming days was a lot better 5 years ago when you can run great games on modest system.

just in sheer Pricing terms

console gaming will allways survive

who wants to pay £1000 for the performance of a £400 console ?

yes the games are more expensive but theres a whole legion of monkeys out there who wouldnt know their mouse from their keyboard, and its these type of gamers that make console makes their money

Why buy a PC if you ONLY use it for games? Thats the basic argument for and against. The games on consoles are optimised for the console and everyones looks the same. PCs are expensive for gaming on, and to play the latest games, you must have a newish PC. With consoles, my PS2 is still the same platform as it was brand new. But Im probably on my 4th or 5th PC. Very Expensive.

Can't see it happening personally. the next gen consoles will already have an established base before DX10 games really take off. And as for Digital Distribution, well now the consoles are hooked up to the net they pretty much do the same thing.
