That's exactly how I do them :)

The other versions I don't like. First one would force you into unnatural postions if using heavy weights, I'd be worried about leaning over, spine neding, etc.

Second one he has no back rest and he lowers the weights too low for my liking, asking for shoulder problems if you ask me.

Would they be classed as incline shoulder presses then? His back isn't straight. What benefit would there be to executing the exercise in this manner in terms of delt development?

I forgot to say, I do mine standing up, not sat down - good idea or not?

Brings the core into it a lot more, I personally prefer them sat down.

I've tweaked myself a few times doing standing press / push press.

Standing brings the core into play as ethos said.

Having a very slight incline takes all the pressure of your back, you'll appreciate this when you start humping the big DB's about! I find it easier to isolate and engage the delts with the slight incline, helps me lift more weight aswell.

I do mine like this but i little lower at the bottom. Stop the weight and press back up, no bouncing!!!! ;)

If there's one exercise guaranteed to pull a muscle in my back its standing alternate presses

Funny you should mention that I've just pulled a muscle in my back, just between my shoulder blades, doing heavy DB Shrugs. It's killing me, can't even turn my head! That's after pulling my hamstring at football on tuesday aswell! Nice

I've done that soooo many times, hurts real bad. Sleeping is the worst. I don't do DB shrugs any more, always use the smith machine and warm up with some real light sets.

How long did it put you out of action?

I was supposed to work today but no chance of that. Had the worst nights sleep ever, it was agony trying to move my head and get comfortable. Never done this before as I never really do shrugs, I mainly rely on deadlifts as they build up my traps nicely.

It's also much more likely to cause injury, imho.

Greater risk of shoulder impingement
Greater risk of back injury, it places much more stress on lower back.
Less freedom of movement.
More chance of imbalance as the stronger side lifts more than weaker side.

On paper, in theory the military is superior but I've just stopped doing them. I was alternating with standing bb military and seated DB press with back supported. I've found the seated DB press to be much less stressfull on my back and shoulder joint especially. The craziest thing is I can lift more weight with seated DB press than I can with military! not only that but I find it easier to isolate the delts and smash them with DB's.

So for me I'd say DB is superior ;)
