DDR memory voltage.

I am running my g.skill DDR400 (2-3-2-5) overclocked to DDR480 atm, the reference voltage says 2.6-2.7, however my mobo only lets me have "2.65, 2.75, 2.85" anyway, I had it running fine at DDR460 with 2.65v and 2.5-3-2-7, and now have it overclocked at DDR480 with the same timings, but 2.75 volts.

I was just wondering am I going to significantly shorten the life of my memory with these volts? What about 2.85v as I would like to get to DDR500 eventually to.

not really. maybe 2.85 a little but are you sure your ram can do it? i had some gskill, good stuff but not the best clockers specially 2GB kit

Thats good to hear, I just wanted to check. When you say can my ram do it, do you mean the speed (DDR500)? A couple of review sites had my memory at DDR516 (maybe more) with 2.8v, I will try DDR500 with 2.75 though (with looser timings ofc).

I was quite suprised as its a 2gb kit. I run 3dmark 05 and got about 240 more marks than before - not sure if thats much but as I haven't had to change the timings its atleast worth while I think. Running everest stability test now, will leave it running for 24 hours (did with last overclock).

I have my G Skill PC3200 ZX running 1:1 with the CPU @251 - DDR502 3-3-3-7 1T @ 2.7v

Wow, getting that runing at 1T must give you a pretty crazy bandwidth!

I run my BH5 at 3.6v no problems. :cool:

Everest says 6.3GB/s read and 2.7GB/s write.

2*1gb balistix pc4000 modules used to run 2.9v @ 3-3-3-8 1T @~280mhz, had to rma after mobo bug killed them (was running them at 3.25V real, selected 2.95)

new sticks are stuck about 2.8v@ 250 3-3-3-8 1T. ill get other timings when im home, and some everest scores.

anyway - 2.7 to 2.8v should be fine for 24/7. over that and your playing on how durable the sticks are. 2.9 will probably shorten life by some small extent, 3.3 WILL KILL in short order.

older sticks on older processes are generally more forgiving. (used to run some clasic crucial pc133 C2 SDram @ 155 2-2-2 with 3.9V - still works fine)
had some bh5 on twinmoss ran at 3.3V all its life (still works)
some twinmoss/twinmoss @ 3V all its life (fine)
early batch balistix 512mb sticks of pc4000 running 3V all their life also fine.

Cool cheers for your replies. Unfortunatly my PC had froze by the time I had come back from work (had run 14 hours on everest this morning when I checked and was fine then).

Gonna up my CPU vcore a little as I hadn't changed it from previous overclock. I want to be able to use my PC tonight tho so might try it tomorrow night/saturday.

I thought I would give my overclock another try with a volt increase (1.55 to 1.5625), had left everest's stability test for 35 hours and it was fine! ;D
