Hi there again,

My brother is also looking to buy some RAM for around the xmas period.

He has a X2 3800+ running at 2.5ghz.

He only has 1GB atm (still in XP) but is noticing some FPS lag in games. I went round and closed ALL programs other than his game and it ran a lot better. (I think with all the progs and his extra screen off he got about 200-250mb back)

He is now thinking of putting in another 1Gb of RAM.

He deffo doesn't want to upgrade anything else as this would mean a new socket etc and he can't afford that.

Would an extra GB of RAm help him? I think yes as I left everest running with it's log and his game was eating 98% of his RAM.

Thing is the RAM he has now is the Corsair PC3200 TwinXPRO. This RAM has timings of 2-2-2-5 which apparently is very good for the AMD's.

Would he have to lossen the timings to get the extra RAM in?

Also, I remember there being problems with all the RAM slots filled on a S939, is this still a problem?

MOBO: MSI K8N Neo4 Plat

I think I done a bios update when I put in the X2 so about 2 months ago.

Cheers, Doug.

he can drop in anohter pair of sticks fine, but will have to run 2T cmd. depending on his core he might have to run at 333mhz ram also, but im prety sure allX2's can run 400mhz ram.

crucial are selling 1 gig sets rated 2-2-2-6 for ~£60 tho i cant link you to them.

Cheers for replying.

If I run them at 2T how much slower is that going to run?

Also, I have his current RAM running at 333 because with the O/C it brings them back up to 400.

I think i'll just tell him to go for it as the extra gig of RAM will be better than him running in 1T...

Cheers again!

Running at 2T will slow things down and 4x512mb will need to be run on a 333
bus. i would go for a 2gig kit for 60 quid and sell what you have now.

Or this if you dont want to shop around

Hi again,

Cheers for replying!

Couple of qustions...

If I put another two sticks in and it runs at 333mhz can I then OC the FSB to get it running at 400mhz again or is the fact that the mobo can't hack it?

If I do have to sell then how much can I get for:

Corsair TwinX PC3200 XL Pro (2-2-2-5) DDR Memory

I only ask because I had a look on the bay and found some but it was only at £20. I would think about buying this but because it has a Thermalight 120 heatsink thingy the heatpipes don't allow this EXACT RAM in the two slots right next to the CPU.

It was kick ass RAM at the time and would miss it verrrry much:( (used to be mine you see...)

If I can't get a lot for them and buying another 1GB will lower the RAM to 333mhz & if they won't then OC to 400mhz will 333mhz take a massive performance hit?

If it's not massive then I might have to do that if all I can get for the sticks is £20.

Cheers in advance, Doug.
