I currently have Corsair 3200 twinX-LL 2-2-2-6 512x2.
I have tried to overclock the system & currently the ram is 218MHz 2-3-3-6 @ 2.8v & not 100% stable over time i.e glitches every 2 or 3 days but no crashes. Have got it to 224MHz but crashes at least once a day.
I believe the RAM is holding the CPU back AMD 64x2 4600 Manchester with stock HSF at 46 core 1 + core 2 41C at 1.35v.[soon to have AC Freezer Pro]
I have tried dropping it down from 400Mhz to 333MHz in BIOS [ASUS A8N-SLi Premium] but I get "system failed memory test" error & no boot:confused:

So I believe I need to change RAM.

Do I go for GEIL 3200 2 GB 3-4-4-8 hoping it will respond better if I use a memory divider or 4000 [make?]. Will the latter show much of a boost for the extra £80.
I'm loathe to spend too much as I hope to upgrade & be using DDR2 [or 3?] within 18 months.
Thanks.

AFAIK the timings on the Geil are rubbish, the kit you got now is better by the looks of it.

Granted the Geil timings are slower but in real terms?
The reviews on OcUK have got it to 235MHz. +17MHz on what my current ram does so 17 x 12 = 204Mhz more out of the Cpu. 2GB is £117 compared to +£170 for 2GB of the fast stuff be it 3200 or 4000.

That Geil is not rubbish just reservative in timings. At stock it will run 3-4-4-8 but most people I've seen have theirs at 2.5-3-3-6.

I'd say go for it if you intend to keep it for 18 months.
