Does anyone know why my geil ultra 2gb ddr2 pc6400 is showing up in cpu z as running at 400mhz.

is my ram knackered or is it my motherboard an asus p5k?

RAM's fine, its DDR2 so you have to double the rate.

Think of it as a motorway with two lanes, you have 400mhz going in one way, 400mhz the other therefore 800mhz total.

Also, remember that FSB speeds need to be divided by 4 to get the actual front side bus speed.

[EDIT]Duvet77 beat me to it![/EDIT]

That is normal. Remember, DDR (double data rate) memory can carry double the amount of memory for every Hz, hence 800mhz memory is actually running at 400mhz.

phew!

That's relief, but another problem I'm having is the timings don't run at 4 4 4 12 specified for the ram, instead they're running at 5 5 5 18, the PC crashes when I try to set this manually in bios.

Any help guys?
