Im not sure if my mobo is compatible with DDR2 RAM, it currently has 1GB (4x256) DDR PC3200. My processor is dual core/cpu and a pci-express port.

I don't have the manual but the model is "MS 7046". MSI.

No it's not compatible with DDR2.

Ok ty, but tell me, is DDR2 a massive difference from DDR?

A friend told me that DDR Dual Chanel is near enough the same as DDR2? I need 2GB for BF2, Oblivion to basically use the full potential of my GFX card, so If I got 2GB dual chanel DDR would it be much difference from 2GB DDR2? I don't overclock, no.

I'd say no DDR2 doesn't offer a huge amount of performance increase over DDR. DDR2 offers twice as much bandwidth but suffer high latencies as a trade off, if you are looking to keep your machine for a while then definetely get 2Gb DDR.

If you are not ocing the the OCZ EL Platinum 2Gb Dual Channel kit is quite cheap and has low latencies at stock speed.

Another solution is to get a C2D ready motherboard and DDR2 RAM and keep your CPU and GFX, so you have DDR2 and can upgrade to new CPU anytime.

I would go with what steve258 has mentioned here..

Also I have the exact same motherboard as you, but my RAM in 2x512mb PC3200 configuration, so I guess you either bought a Medion or Advent T9202?? The MSI MS-7046 is an OEM Micro-ATX motherboard that has 0 overclocking ability (which means I can't get my Intel P4 3.4GHz to the 3.8GHz that I wish I could..) and no BIOS updates as far as I am aware...so I am just itching for an upgrade to Core 2 Duo...

So yeah, for short term performance, upgrade to 2GB RAM, for better future upgradability, get a motherboard that supports DDR + DDR2 RAM and is compliant with Core 2 Duos..ther is an Asrock motherboard that supports DDR/DDR2 and C2D but I am not sure where they are available from.

Well my rig is running sweet, but the RAM seems to hold it back. I don't really want to change anything, I've never overclocked, everything stock. So 2GB DDR seems fine ty.
