Hi all I am at the moment struggling with 4GB of ram.

I have looked on OCUK and cant see an 8GB kit just 4GB etc but damn there a lot of money compared to DDR3.

I could sell my 4x1gb sticks to go towards a 8gb setup.

So does OCUK sell an 8GB kit or am I just missing it?.

EDIT

I was looking at this

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-146-CR&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=144

But x4?

I know there not as good as the memory I have I have rather fast memory (will see what it is later) but is more better than faster if ya get what I am saying?.

Thanks

EDIT 2

Or this x2?

You will have to buy 2 4GB kits (2x2) to get 8GB or 4 of the single sticks, there is no 8GB kit. What memory do you currently have?

Hi full spec is

Q6700 @ STD clock speeds
ATI 4890 1GB @ STD clock speeds
Corsair 550w or 650w PSU

the memory I have is

Corsair XMS2 part number of the ram is

CM2X1024-6400 I am running 4x1 GB sticks

Its good ram tbh any idea what I could get for this lot of ram if I was to sell it?.

Thanks

EDIT

Forgot really important part

Mother board

Asus striker extreme 1 latest BIOS it seems this MB can be fussy with memory so would need to check.

As they are 1GB sticks they'll be less in demand and therefore less valuable. I suspect you'll get £20 odd for all four. Maybe a bit more if you use the bay of e's.

You are best getting 2nd hand ram, it is the easiest of all hardware to test with something like Memtest86+ and you won't be paying silly money for it like the new stuff.

but really aint sure they will work.

please advis

Certified memory lists are rarely used these days, most memory works on most boards. What you find is these lists are created when the board is released and rarely if ever updated after that point. Crucial memory is pretty good and I'd say you shouldn't have a problem, especially as you are going from running 4 sticks to running 4 sticks.

Ultimately if you purchase online you are covered by the DSRs, so if they don't work, you can always return them for a full refund less the postage you pay to send them back.

I'll be honest though, I'm not sure the benefits of having another 4GB of memory is worth the £80 outlay, even less the money you get back from selling your current memory. If it was me, I'd save that money for a future platform upgrade or get something like a cheap SSD (if you don't have one) which will be more noticeable.

Yeah thought thats why it was so much oh well.

Speed I cant afford nor will I ever be able to afford a new PC setup.

I really wanted the pre built system on OCUK its overclocked bundle using 2500k at 4.5ghz :O but meh never gonna happen I am trying to make the best of a bad situation LOL.

I do 3d work and photo editing and when I look at memory usage I have 500mb free of 4gb so yeah deffo need more ram

What operating system are you using? Windows 7 for example is very good at managing resources, the fact you have free memory means you should be fine. You'll get a more noticeable increase in performance from an SSD. I'd put that £60 towards a 120GB model personally and use that as your boot drive.
