I bought this back in april for £42.49 now when i want to add more to my system, I notice it is now at £56. Are DDR2 prices increasing like they did with DDR?

I think it has been expected for a while. Now that the majority of motherboards released or due to be released are DDR3 production is going to be focused on that.

That would make some difference but I doubt that it is. still over 1.6US to the £

Also then you would see price difference in everything not just DDR2. People have been speculating about rising DDR2 prices for months and now that DDR3 prices are plumetting it makes sense that they rise.

With most Phenom boards, all x58 boards and the coming **** P55 boards DDR3 production would have been ramped up recently. If they make less DDR2 then it becomes less economical and prices rise.

Just spotted this comment. Really? It seems the other way to me...?

Yeah I know... I hadn't been keeping close enough attention to it and was hoping this hadn't been noticed :D

DDR3 has fallen though, massively since it first was released, and although there has been an increase recently I reckon it will continue to fall.

My guess is that with i5 coming out and the increased popularity of DDR3 AM3 motherboards DDR3 stocks are getting smaller (hence the number of DDR3 products out of stock at the moment). I would imagine that prebuilt system builders have first dibs on DDR3 stocks.

In a couple of months this temporary shortage will be over and DDR3 production will be even higher and economies of scale will mean that it will be even cheaper. DDR2 is still going to become more expensive as it becomes rarer. this was being predicted on these boards months and months ago.
