I ask this question as it appears theres a fair amount of DDR2 either missing or out of stock being sold by ocuk and what is remaining seems to be more expensive than a few weeks ago. is this due to supplies being hit by the recession, etc, or are manufacturers moving towards DDR3? The prices of DDR3 seem more reasonable than a while ago.
What do ppl here reckon?

I'd have to agree. The late spring -> summer was probably the lowest we'll ever see DDR2 prices again now.

It's certainly looking that way - as, WJA96 has already stated we've probably passed through the lowest price bracket of DDR2.

Yeah, I recall seeing somewhere that the fabs are downscaling DDR2 production and moving onto DDR3. With the big OEMs like Dell shipping DDR3 in systems as standard it's only a matter of time before DDR2 becomes obsolete.

Indeed. I've noticed prices creeping up on DDR2, time to fill your systems now before the prices go any higher methinks!

Bah!
I guess it's time to nag her for another 4 gigs before it really goes through the roof.

Yeah. That's the main problem with all technology though. As soon as the newest thing hits the mainstream, everything else starts to die. DDR2 prices will slowly climb, and we will see DDR3 coming down more. I remember looking at DDR3 prices a few months ago, and they were almost double what they are now. It's scary how fast things change.

I've got 8gb (4 x 2gb) DDR2 sitting here unused. I got it at a great price in the MM and did intend to build a system around it. But as DDR3 is coming down I'm tempted to sell it for at least what I bought it for and get some better DDR3 for my system instead.

Also have 4gb (4 x 1gb) DDR1 which seems to be appreciating in value too :)

Nobody on here will pay much over £15 for 2x1gb ddr2 or £30 for 2x2gb ddr2
so I wouldn't get hopes up.

its like any other technology, when new comes out generally almost the old technology (what its replaced) gets cheaper

Edited just for gurusan:cool:

Now that 1156 mainstream has come out + dual channel DDR3 we will only see more and more decline of DDR2, its days are limited
