Hi All,

Ive been trying to overclock my system to no avail, my rig is

MC72XE Acer Mobo - (P7N Diamond)
4 x 1g OCZ DDR2 Sli Ram
Win7 64 H.Pr
Onyx 2 SSD - OS
RAID - Games
CPU - Q6600 @ 2.4 :-<

After seeing so many people saying about pumping this cpu well over 3gig i thought id give it a go. After many days of nothing ive found the following

With only 2 sticks of ram in the system Will boot with the Expert Settings ie 4,4,4,15
With all 4 in and Expert set the system will not even post.

Is this what should happen? Ive tried all 4 sticks in the Expert settings config, ie switched them all around so I dont think there are any bad dimms?
Think i may have to sell these 4 sticks and get 2 x 2 8500 instead?!?!

Even with only 2 sticks in im still not able to overclock the setup. Even at 2.5 its unstable :-<

Hi there,

First thing I would suggest is looking for the rated RAM voltage and what you have set it to in the BIOS. Are all the sticks rated to 4-4-4-15 by OCZ?

One of your problems will be that you have four sticks of RAM. This puts much more strain on the memory controller (on the northbridge) and will reduce the stable RAM settings you can achieve. You may have to settle with looser timings to get the system to run well with four sticks.

As for overclocking, a quad core in a 780i board with four RAM sticks is not an ideal combination for overclocking. If you can, I would sell the sticks and buy for a 2x2GB 1066MHz kit - this will not only put less strain on your memory controller, it will also allow you to overclock the CPU easier.

Hey,

Thanks for the reply, ive messed a little with the sticks, seems my options are to have them all in an manually set to 800mhz with a cl of 5, the other option being at 567(ish) with a cl of 3, in tests in cant tell the difference. Think i will be buying the hyperx pair though, looks like my best bet and a good price!
I have checked the sticks and they are all the same model, 4,4,4,15 @2.1v DDr2 800 OCZ Sli edition. I tried setting the ram volts to auto, 2.1 and 2.2v with all 4 in and still no expert settings. I spy an ebay listing soon for 4 sticks of ram lol
