Hi chaps,

I bought some Corsair "1600" ram a while ago. It was a bit of a wolf in sheeps clothing though in that it was 10700 memory (1333) with an XMP of 1600 you can manually set.

Would it be a good idea to buy some 12800 memory instead and would I be able to get much better performance out of it? or just tighter timings?

is the ram I have, i think. But its incorrectly listed as 12800
its xmp is 9-9-9-24-41 2T @ 1600

and am I going to be quite limited by the CPU memory controller?
I have a 960T.

All 1600MHz RAM is as you describe it as far as I'm aware because the JDEC standard for DDR3 only goes up to 1333MHz.

If you bought a different set of 1600MHz RAM you'd likely end up with exactly the same thing.

If your system supports 1600MHz then just set the speed, timings and voltage manually using the same settings contained in the XMP profile.

Ah ok thanks. I thought I'd be able to overclock them further maybe. Going by what some other people have posted though, it seems that their are minimal actual gains anyway after 1600.
