DDR3 8GB (2x4GB)

It's kinda pointless, people only get tons of RAM because it's so cheap, but when it stops being so then there's no point. You're not going to see a performance increase, and most people only need about 3GB (but get 4GB since it's easier to set up and probably cheaper).

Yes and no (my friend certainly doesn't need it - most average users don't need it.).

There are some ppl/businesses/research/servers that actually require this new advancement. There are even average users that have hybrid MBs that only have one or two DDR3 slots on their motherboard and so will benefit from this introduction.

Give it ~3 years and this thread will seem very antiquated... (but for now it will seem extreme.)

Absolute rubbish.

Some people do this, and see no performance increase. The majority of people on here know what they're doing with computers and move to larger amounts of ram only if they have a specific requirement for it. Given it tends to decrease cpu clock people don't do this just for the hell of it.

I'd have been very interested in 4gb sticks on the 775 platform. However since x58 moves up to six slots from four, it seems less pressing again. Triple channel might not be useful but the extra slots are.

I agree, If you are encoding video or are using photoshop/lightroom on a reqular basis, CAD or various other programs then more RAM the better.
but the more RAM the harder it is to get stable overclocks.

Saves me an edit but the above too.

Ramdisks are awesome. One of the best reasons for having a lot of ram. Take care not to leave important data in them though, i've been caught out by rebooting without thinking.

If putting games on one, install it then use an imaging program to record it to a hard drive. Then after you reboot you just image back across, tends to be rather quicker than installing from scratch, especially if theres more than one program on it.

Enjoy

^ The above discussion made me smile. I'm glad you both agree :D

RAMDISK

Thanks Jon.
I hope to put games on it as well as 'TEMP' and 'Temporary Internet Files' - I have no problems with those being lost after a reboot.
