DDR3 i7 and 775

I have a Q6600 in my machine and I couldnt turn down the price of DDR3 6gb kit (i currently only run 2gb ddr3). Can i just boot into bios volt down to 1.65v on memory, save changes, turn off. put in 2 x 2gb sticks of my new i7 stuff and il be safe on 4gb at 1.65 v? Im sure I am, just like to check 1st

why not use the 6GB kit with your i7?
plus most tri channel kits come safe at 1.65V or less

Your using triple channel?
Yes this will auto detect and reduce it to dual channel... Not sure about volts, I imagine these will stay the same?
Im running triple channel ram in dual channel mode just now, the OCZ Reaper 6GB 1866mhz

How are you running 6gb? is it not 3 x 2gb modules?

So what's the point of ddr3 for systems that clock it down to dual channel?

It wont be down clocked tho. I was just buying some cheap DDR3 trippel channel for when i go i7, will still be clocked at same speed!
