Hi all,
Quick question number one hundred & forty two ;)

Currently I have a 680i 775 mobo with 2x2GB DDR2 RAM.

Can I buy DDR3 & fit it to my mobo with no problems
&
What would be the improvement..... is it much quicker

Many thanks in advance

Oh may stand corrected, never seen DDR3 775 board :) Don't know why they would bother if it wasn't designed for it originally?

Nope, it will only take DDR2. There will not be any DDR3 775 motherboards, only for socket 1136 and 1366 (for Intel i5, i7).

There were quite a few DDR3 motherboards released. The X38 and X48 chipsets had provision for both DDR2 and DDR3, although only some manufacturers released DDR3 boards.

To the OP: No, DDR3 will not work in your board. It provides barely any speed increase over DDR2 anyway, so the only reason to have it is when you have to ie with i5 and i7.
