DDR3 in a 775 socket Mobo

Hi all,
Quick question number one hundred & forty two

Currently I have a 680i 775 mobo with 2x2GB DDR2 RAM.

Can I buy DDR3 & fit it to my mobo with no problems
&
What would be the improvement..... is it much quicker

Nope, it will only take DDR2.

Only 775 board to take DDR3 was that X48 foxconn one me thinks?

Don't know why they would bother if it wasn't designed for it originally?

There were quite a few DDR3 motherboards released. The X38 and X48 chipsets had provision for both DDR2 and DDR3, although only some manufacturers released DDR3 boards.

To the OP: No, DDR3 will not work in your board. It provides barely any speed increase over DDR2 anyway, so the only reason to have it is when you have to ie with i5 and i7.

But anyway to the OP No, no you cant

Has no signifcant difference over ddr2 anyway with a 775 board.

DDR3 only comes into its own with AM3 and 1336/1366
