hi all, ok so i just put in my 13900k with gigabyte aorus elite ax m/b and kingston fury beast ddr5 pc54800.

ok so in the name of the memory is pc5-4800, but on overclockers it states that the ram runs at 6000mhz, anyway i tried to put 6000mhz into gigabyte control center and it would not boot at all and reset to 4800, so is 4800 actually 6000mhz or am i missing something here or doing something wrong.

They're usually programmed to boot at 4800 (google the model number with +pdf and you'll get the datasheet) and require XMP to run at higher frequencies.

If you just put the frequency straight to 6000 without changing the voltage it will probably crash.

What's the exact model code? (or take a pic of CPU-Z memory tab)

part number = kf5 60c36-16

didnt have xmp enabled, ill try that, but im getting a lot of crashes in warzone so might need to format and start again.

That's DDR5-6000, C36, the code should be bigger than that, but XMP voltages in the data sheet for KF560C36BBE-16 are 1.35v for 6000 or 1.25v for 5600.

The board might change other things when enabling XMP, but purely for the memory, those are the DRAM voltages in the pdf.

ok so been in work so only just got a chance to look at this again, anyway just had a quick look at the bios and put into xmp mode profile 1 ddr5 6000mhz, wouldn't post in xmp mode, now quick question the last m/b i had z390, the ram went into banks 1 and 3, would this be the same or does it make a difference, as the manual is pretty much no existent, not like manuals used to be.

As far as I can tell, the manual says A2 and B2, which is the 2nd slot from the CPU and the 4th slot (on the far edge of the board, nearest the power connector).

Did you check the DRAM voltage? Not all boards set it, even with XMP enabled.

not yet, ill try now then if not im gonna go for a reformat, cheers for help so far.

Just to be clear, by not posting you mean... it freezes and never shows BIOS screen at all, right? How long do you give it to boot? (DDR5 boards can take ages when you change settings)

Reformat won't/shouldn't help with the board not posting when you enable XMP, but it may help with the crashing at stock (especially if you never re-installed Windows after the upgrade).

Hi cheers for the reply. Yea wouldnt post at all. Took 10 mimns or so then asked to reset to optimised settings and reboot. But your advice for mem slots seemed to work in slots 2 and 4 with xmp. Now boots at 6000mhz with all core 5.5. NOt sure whether to try 5.8 or not. Not had much time to tinker though with wrok and all that. Had it running fine with warzone yesterday no crashes. Im just deciding whether to upgrade to windows 11 now or not. As the scheduler is supposed to be better. i need to reinstall all my games and progs when i get time.
