I have tried both baffled ansd straight through de-cat and am now running Magnaflow Hi-flow cat which I have found to be better than any decat.
It also means you don't run the risk of a £1000 fine.

The last bit, is there any truth in this? I thought you just got asked to re-fit the cat if you were pulled over and given an emissions test (which failed). Does it depend on what area you're in maybe?

You certainly arent going to get a fine that big! If you get pulled over id probably say theyd only warn you and if you get caught again then theyll fine or something. Sports CAT's are better in the long run i guess if you dont want to put a cat back on every MOT time.

Sport cats are only worth using if they can get you car to pass the emissions for its class during normal use. Due to their lower density some won't unless they are very hot - I can't see a copper sitting at the side of the road with you fast idling for 5 minutes to pass the emissions test ;)

I always ran a straight through cat replacement pipe and got my MOT tester to swap the main cat back in place for the MOT. Even then it took 10 mins of 3-4k revving to get the standard cat to fire up enough to pass.

I get the feeling it's going to be cheaper to just buy one though...

go to powerflow, they made me one for £40 fitted.

Is that Powerflow in Bolton? I'll tell the guys at TopGear Doncaster (Powerflow) to do a price match if they quote much more than that.

Thanks:)

Some engines seem to prefer some back pressure, the K series likes a sport cat rather than a de-cat iirc.

I wouldnt worry about being pulled over, its so unlikely to happen its untrue, ive never seen anyone being roadside tested for emissions, plus if your car has an MOT it doesnt matter as long as it is valid a fault could have happened since, my decat does have not for road use stamped on it, but as you cant actually get under the car to see, its not going to be a problem ;)

Ive only ever seen some tanks being dipped in Wales on trucks once but thats it, never any vehicle stop checks/emissions etc.

I used to run with a de-cat a while ago, you may remember it being quite loud at a RR a few years ago. Problem was it was one of those adjustable ones with the overlapping sections, it rattled like mad.

I may enquire about a baffled pipe as I reckon it'll be quite raspy with a straight pipe.

I'll ring TG in the morning:)

It's on and it now sounds like a touring car:D

I told them you got yours done for £40 in Burnley Tom but they were having none of it, ended up paying £58 fitted which is still good, it costs around that just for the pipe normally, then the hassle of fitting. Maybe the Mondeo cat is smaller/requires less welding? dunno.

Going to reset ECU and go for a drive, brb:D

did they butcher your old cat or make one from scratch? they used the mounts from my old cat and just cut the actual cat bit out....saved a few quid there.
