"The sale or import of replica firearms will be banned under new legislation which comes into force next year."

First I've heard of this, however I assume it means our collections won't grow any more! Does anyone know if we'll be forced to hand our (expensive!) collection over come "next year"?

I'm wondering if it's like the brocock revolver deal a few years ago. Where there's very little publicity, and then before you know it you own an illegal section 5 firearm!

If we don't have to 'hand over' I might have to splash out before the time runs out..

Ok, its one thing converting a replica and making it a gun but guns need bullets, surely its wise to tackle the ammo rather than the gun itself?

I have a crazy feeling there's some loop hole which means it's perfectly legal to own the component parts, but not put them together.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a total ban, the way the police see it is that these may be converted but even when no can be used convicingly in robberies, the wishes of collectors won't be considered as it would be very difficult for them to put up a convincing argument against a ban ( or at least one which would satisfy the police and government )

I wonder how many legitimate collectors use a part of their collection to hold up the local postoffice.

More likely, the people doing this came into the posession of these replicas through already illegal means and therefore couldn't give two hoots about what the law says in regards to buying or selling them.

Yet another poorly thought through knee jerk piece of firearms legislation.

I wouldn't be surprised either Rotty. The wishes of the thousands of legal pistol owners wasn't taken into consideration when they were effectively banned by converting them to Section 5, and neither were the many thousands of Brocock pistol owners when their legally held pistols were added to Section 1.

probably none but as legitimate as these folks are they are going to struggle to come up with an argument in favour of their hobby or at least one that will outweigh the police/politicians arguments against in the eyes of the public and press

Very true, but nontheless sad for it.

Its just the "guns are used for criminal acts, we must ban guns" logic. Its not as if these lumps of metal jump up and start robbing people. I'm sure it takes a criminal to do that....

In the event of a ban are collectors compensated ?

I think the closest we'll get to compensation is "Well done for being so honest!" and a pat on the back - if that.

I thought you were allowed to keep a brocock if you already had one? you just hadf to get a licence for it.

No chance :)

You could keep it, but you had to apply for a Section 1 Fire Arms Certificate, with all of the rigmarole that entails. Two referees, PNC and Criminal Intelligence check, police visit, secure cabinet etc.. etc..

Brocock pistols are now designated as a firearm, and in the eyes of the law, are in exactly the same category as say a .50BMG sniper rifle, which can also be quite legally held on a FAC :rolleyes:

Is Feek still around? He usually knows about things like this.

It's a case of buying up and keeping what you have, or selling up and keeping the cash - before the other poor sod has to hand his collection over!
I guess it could also go the FAC route, but what a pain that would be.

Isnt this law going to ban replica BB guns too, from what I can remember? Its a completly stupid law.

Well I await the law changing water pistols and footballs into firearms. :rolleyes:

Depends what you put in the water pistol.

Water = toy
Chemicals = weapon

Deactivated weapons will never be licenced on an FAC.

If they are banned, which will be a nightmare, it'll be "You have X amount of time to hand them in, whereupon they will be destroyed either by crushing, or furnace"

No compensation will be offered.
