Dead 2700K Replacement

If you want the same performance then 3770K, if you want to save money and downgrade get a 3570K (difference will not be noticed in the majority of current games).

NB: A new 2700K is only £35 more than a new 3570K btw

I would check you did not overtighten the cooler and bend pins in the socket before casting the CPU aside. Try in another board if you can. For your uses go 3570K if you need a new CPU.

I'd try that 2700k in a friend's board or ask retailer if they're feeling nice to test it for you, albeit it with it being out of warranty.

yeah... pretty difficult to kill a cpu .... not done that since the old socket A days where the cores were easy to chip and crush.

More likely that you've damaged the motherboard or shorted via the backplate. Loosen it all up a bit and try again

I'd do as suggested and check the cpu in another system if possible - and check your socket for any bent pins if your unable to get it to another system :) - hope its turns out to be something trivial/something you just looked over and not something more damaging :(. (while I'm at it - what makes you think your cpu is dead? lack of boot up etc? - did a quick google of your mobo model and it doesnt look like it has an led debug (if it does and im blind - any error codes popping up) , when you try boot up is their any sort of sound (beeps) that could indicate what the problem is?)

As for the above quote - very interesting :) thought it would have been rather easy to buck a cpu kudos :).

I killed a 2500k... well it died after running at 5ghz and some high voltage for about 12 months. It was under water so temps were OK, my point is that it is possible :p

All the fans kick in for about 5 seconds and it all shuts down, Then it starts up again and stays on. Screens are blank. The only light is the MemOK! light which the user guide says there is a problem with the RAM but ive tested the RAM and its fine.

Did exactly what you said and it turns out to be the MB not the CPU. So thank you ever so much £100 saved.
