My 13 month old 360 is dead :(. The dreaded 3 red rings has got me. I sent it to a company in Dundee to be repaired but apparently it's beyond repair. So it's time to replace it. The question is, do i risk getting another 360 or get the PS3 ? The failure rate of 360's seems to be very high. I know people who are on their 3rd/4th console. So far, the PS3's seem to be a lot more reliable.

Well it's kinda too late for that because i've already sold it for spares and got my mrs to approve another purchase

It depends on if you like playing the 360 games you have and if you want to play Forza 2, Halo 3, PGR 4 etc. Personally I would buy another 360 (maybe a Core if you still have your HDD) and take the extended warranty on it which will still work out cheaper than a PS3. Of course if you didn't enjoy your 360 and are looking for a change (and don't give a damn about the games on the 360) then go for the PS3. There's not a fat lot out for the PS3 at the moment though, and there's not likely to be for a few months yet. I own both, and the Wii, and the 360 gets far more of my time at the moment.

actually, those who decided to fix their faulty xbox360 probably paid more than a ps3. Not fogetting all the hassle of getting it replaced or calling up MS or the shop. Althought the x360 is cheaper, i won't put up with the risk and uncertainly involved. I think the OP did the right decision.

Beside there are still tones of PS2 games out in the market.

There is just too many decent games for the 360 to completely ditch it..

I totally understand the reliability issue, even though I'm on a launch day one and still going strong, I know I must be one of the lucky few!!..

But I also have a PS3, and really, even though it may be reliable, it gets very very little use compared to the 360..

In an ideal world everyone should have both, if you can only have one, it has to be the 360.. just get an extended warranty to cover your ass..

Saying that, you should have just got a CORE for £149, used your old HDD / Accessories and then you could have saved a bit towards a PS3 which will be more of a choice in 6 months time...

It really depends on what's important to you, the reliability of the console, or playing a wide selection of games now!!

I chose the PS3 over the 360 after my first 360 broke even though it was still under warranty because I don't play games all that often, and I don't have the time or money to keep taking the 360 back, paying for repairs and generally messing about because they can't build a decent piece of hardware :(

Personally I'm happy to wait for the games, as I know that when they do arrive I will be playing them and not worrying about the console dying on me. Others aren't happy to wait and thus for them the 360 is the better option.

IMO short term the 360 is the better option, but for long term the PS3 is/will be better.

I believe this time next year the userbase for the PS3 will be much larger, as there will be a better choice of software, the console should be cheaper, and the majority of 360 owners will be fed up of the consoles reliability and thus will head towards the PS3 rather than the 360.

Although this assumption will only happen if Sony continue to improve the functionality of the PS3, especially the online features.

I had the same issues, sent it to the same company, and got the same "beyond repair" message. They offered to buy it for spares for £50, (did they ask you?) but as i had an almost brand new £40 black case on it, i had to decline.

I went out and found the best Core deal i could find (which was £190 with Viva Pinata and a memory card).

The PS3 still has nothing to offer me games wise at the moment. Unless you're seriously interested in the current line-up, or imminent titles, then i don't really see the point of ditching your current catalogue of games.

£150 for a new core with a new warranty.

Ps3 is **** ;)
The £150 ones have sold out if you mean where I think you do. The £150 is moot too because you need a memory card on top and what are they, £20?

If you've already got all the parts from a premium then a cheap core is the way to go. Just hunting for one myself.

Out of interest, how much did the Scots give you for it?

Hi there

I'm now in the same situation. My 360 has just died with the 3 red lights. Unfortunatley it is 15 months old so it's out of warranty. However, I think I've seen posts about consumer rights or something like that on the board that says the retailer has to replace it since it died in such a short amount of time. It has only been used lightly, less than 150 hours over 15 months. Now I know I could pay for Microsoft to replace it but I do not have £80 spare at the moment. What is the best way to go about getting a replacement? I outright refuse to pay for a repair.
I am also looking at PS3s now since every single one of my friends I know that has/had a 360 all had one or more die on them.

Yep think they sold out from the certain "shoe" store glad I got mine.

Get a new 360 and get a PS3 later, 360 has got a bunch of AAA titles coming out this year with lots of hype around them.
