I've just requested an RMA from Overclockers but wanted to check I'm not missing anything obvious/stupid here, as I'm frustrated having just spent a huge amount on upgrades and new games and now being unable to play them.

The card is an Asus 6990, it has been functioning perfectly up until today when my screen went blank and entered powersaving mode although my PC had not frozen as I could still hear music and the display on my G15 keyboard continued to work.

The card will allow the PC to boot into windows (again confirmed by sounds through the headphones and the G15 display starting up and allowing me to read emails etc), but it doesn't output any video at all.
I've tried the card:
In a different PCIE slot
In a different PC
With and without the 8-pin PCIE power cables connected
With various different VGA/HDMI/DVI displayport adapters
Different monitor

None of the above made any difference, the card does not output anything at all. It does still spin its fan - although I've just noticed that when first powering on, it doesn't speed up for a second before slowing down like it used to (and like most ATi cards do).
I've confirmed the the PC, display and cable(s) all work OK by putting a friends GPU in my PC. I've also tried flicking the GPU BIOS select switch over.

It has to be dead, I've ran out of ideas!?

What PSU are you using?

Also, the graphic card should have all PCI-E power filled.
PC Power & Cooling 910w Silencer.
I've always run the card with both of the 8-pin PCIE power cables connected. I just meant that I'd tried with none, one and two connected for troubleshooting; usually having none connected should cause an error or at least it used to on older ATi cards :(

if u removed the sticker thats on the switch maybe ocuk won't replace it..

also the 6990 has 2 power connectors

reading some sites they state it volds the warranty

also on amd site
I read the AMD site, I think what they're referring to by 'operating beyond specifications' meaning overclocking beyond what they've already set. Either way the card has never been overclocked, I'd read that the switch acts almost like a backup BIOS so thought it may be worth a try.

That's incredible.. if you have a windowed case with that sticker it will look utterly crap. I don't care about showing my PC off, but that sticker is crazy, it LOOKS like it's intended to come off, utterly ridiculous.

Indeed, how pathetic! Plus AMD provide the ability to switch it - its a bit like buying a car which the manufacturer will void warranty if you put it in reverse gear.
Well anyway technically they're saying the warranty may be void if the card has been overclocked. Mine hasn't, and the sticker is still in place so if it came to it I'd argue my case!

On mine you can easily switch bios without removing the sticker as there's a gap on both sides that you can get a small screwdriver in. Just mentioning for anyone looking to get this card, wanting to run the oc bios, but worried about warranty.

Congratulations you've just voided the warranty on your £6oo video card. Good luck getting it fixed. :(

The terms are that the warranty may be voided if the card is run 'beyond specifications', i.e. overclocked/over-volted. Mine hasn't been.

I hope you get it sorted mate. I've heard that bios-switch-flicking voids the warranty on most cards so I hope yours is the exception. See if you can get it RMA'd.

bios2 is 'beyond specifications', because it overclocks/overvolt to 880/1250 1.175v hence why theres a sticker over the switch.

bios1 is factory-supported which is 830/1250 1.120v

Stop with the nonsense interpretations of the warranty issues.

See what OCUK say and report back please mate. As a 6990 owner, I am curious too!

Good luck

The exact same thing happened to my ASUS 6950 PC would still boot etc but monitor would stay in power saving mode. Mine was totally stock and is currently with ASUS under RMA. I have looked on the around and it looks like some ASUS 6XXX card are doing this. Possible design fault with the non-ref PCB??? Im unsure if the 6990 is non-ref like my 6950 Direct CUII?

If the sticker does not mention anything about the warranty on it - and there is nothing in the manual about removing it voiding warranty, then fight it all the way.
