dead box, but when i plug in a power lead a light (led) comes on on the motherboard.

anyone seen this before...

can this be a dead psu ? or a dead motherboard?

cant be a dead PSU, otherwise that LED wouldn't light up. Possibly a dead motherboard though.

there a battery on the motherboard, which i guessed could still light up the led.

jsut have no way to test it without another PSU which i dont want to buy and then find out it was the motherboard all along

no. the LED on the mobo only powers up from the PSU. The battery only holds the data of the BIOS. Do you get no boot at all or just a black screen, whats your system?

not sure of the system, its not mine but something like an amd3500/1gig/120hd.

get nothing at all, competely dead. fans dont spin, nadda, ziltch

Hi Paulus,

I have had exactly the same problem with a Corsair HX620, installed it, powered on the system and after about 30 seconds the system shut down and would not restart again, however, the motherboard light remained on so there seems to be some power just not enough to start the system.

Thought it was my mobo so put my old PSU back in and the PC works fine. I can only put the problem down the the PSU dying as everything with the system is fine. Tried the Corsair several times before RMA'ing it but nothing.... Sent it back now for replacement but I always worry that they will find nothing wrong with it!
