dead cat

Bury it? Like you would a friend or relative.
Something will dig it up if he buries it. Unless he buries it more than 3- 4ft down, a fox or something will probably try get to it.

Not worth the effort. All he has to do is chuck it into a field and let the foxes and other scavengers eat it. They'll not leave ANYTHING behind, every pick will be eaten.

Its the owners responsibility, if for no reason more than it gives them a chance to say good bye to what was likely a much loved pet. Its not some squirral or a piece of rubbish.

For all intents and purposes, it's a piece of rotting meat now. The owners could live miles away. Like Scuzi said, just chuck it in a hedgerow or the nearest field, job done.

Without making reasonable efforts to find the owners by checking for a collar or ringing a few nearby doors; I would feel guilty for not having atleast tried. As a cat owner myself, I would be NO SWEARINGed off if some one failed to make such an effort were one of my cats killed. Atleast tell them what has happened and give them an opportunity to buy the cat or dispose of it as they wish, before the council arrive.

But then, the owner may not be found and may likely never know why their cat didn't return that day.

I'll say no more and leave it to your conscience yozzer.

Edit 2. Apologies for the swear word. I completely forgot. >_<

Chuck it over the fence into the neighbours nice lovely well pruned garden.

Grrrrr don't you just hate them ! All the time in the world to tender their plants and what about weeding ?. They must have pleasant dreams about weeding whereas I have nightmares.

Well this thread certainly highlights how pointless getting your cat chipped is. If people are just going to bury them or throw them away then the owners are going to suffer. As far as i know the only places that will scan the cat are the vets. There is of course a good chance they wont be chipped but at least you have tried.

Ring a local vet, they might give you some advice....it might be a cat who has gone missing etc.

have you asked your neighbours to see if its there cat?
I would really like to know if it was our cat that got killed - God forbid.
Like other people said call the local council.
check collar for tags. I personally would never go near dead animals, never know what sort of diseases you might get. Most importanly keep your niece away from it.

My cat went missing a week ago, and I fear it's in the same state as the one you mention.
If it has a collar on, check to see if there is a tag on it, as there may well be an owner such as myself looking for it, fearing the worst, but not able to deal with it due to the uncertainty.

It may make me sound like a fairy, but my cat was part of the family for nearly 16 years, and the thought of someone flinging her into a field, or acting on some of the other suggestions in this thread really messes with my head.

If it was me i'd make some effort to find the owner. I wouldn't just chuck it away straight off.

Just knock on a few doors. Have you got a local vet? If so it might be worth seeing if they will scan the cat for a ID chip, as most pets have those these days.

Get down and give it mouth-to-mouth - there might still be a chance.

P.S. that "free cat" picture is stunningly amusing, whoever did that is a comic genius!

Do a reallly crude and amateur job of stuffing it and put it on your mantlepiece looking all twisted and disfigured like that program (watchdog or sommat) where that company was charging people and doing really poor job's with people's pet's.

Bring a pan up to heat.
Add 1 table spoon of olive oil.
Cook either side for 5 minutes.
Serve.

ROFL....

Has to be served with a garnish of Basil and Parsley and served with New Potatoes and Salad.... :D
