Dead GPU?

I run my PC through my TV via HDMI on my Overclockers 8800GTX card. It's all been running happily since I built the machine back in 2008 but I switched it on tonight and I'm not getting any picture at all. I tried using a DVI connection and that doesn't work either (so I can rule out the leads). I'm assuming that this means the card has probably died? Or are there some simple things I could do to try and fix it/see resolve the problem? I'm not sure it makes any difference to any potential troubleshooting, but I don't have access to a monitor at all.

If it is dead, what is a decent, cheap replacement for it? It runs on an IP35-E motherboard and an overclocked Core 2 E2200 CPU. I'm not looking to upgrade anything (I don't do much PC gaming) so I don't need anything super-powerful (and the CPU would probably be the bottleneck anyway), so what should I be looking at? I presume something a bit better than my trusty old card should be available for under £100? (Cheaper the better!)
