Hey all, im running out of options so figured id try seeing if anyone had any ideas.
In short Ive had a Seagate 500gig external HD for a good few months now, been running fine. A few days ago I knocked the table it was on and it fell over- not off the table, just fell over. Since then its been making the classic 'click of death' sound and dosent show up in My Computer or anything.
After checking around the net ive tried a few things so far, none of which have worked.
Stripped it out the case, plugged it in as a regular HD, no luck.
Tried the 'freezing' trick, no luck.
Tried data recovery software, no luck.
Its getting to the point where my only options eems to be sending it off to a data recovery service but as im a student, I already know I wont be able to afford it. The reason ive posted here is just in the hopes someone has a bright idea and might be able to help me out. The drive had a lot of important Uni files on there that I cant afford to lose. My worry is even if I do manage to get some cash together to recover the data professionally, the HD has a few illegally downloaded media files (no not porn
) so id be worried about getting bitten in the ass.
