Recently got a new 1TB Hitachi (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...14&subcat=1279 ) drive and put it back in to the PC.

On switching the PC on, the drive spins for a second and then stops doing this repeatedly through the POST procedure. After a few seconds, the POST fails to find the drive and carries on as if there isn't one connected.

I've tried it in a different SATA port and a different cable but both give the same results. Anything else I can try?

Sounds like it could be a power issue, is the SATA power connector in properly? Tried any of the others just incase that one is wired incorrectly or has a lose wire? Maybe pull one from a drive that works correctly to be certain.

Otherwise it could well be a RMA job for the drive. These Hitachi 1Tb drives are cheap and cheap for a reason, they seem to have a high failure rate.

I've tried it in every different connector available to the PC and none of them seem to work. There's no reason why it shouldn't be working especially as I only got it out of it's packet today :(

So you've tried every power connector on the PSU?

My guess it was just one of those drives that arrives DOA, it happens. Get in touch with OcUK and see if they will do an RMA for you as it's days old.

Definately sounds like a faulty drive then, get in touch with the retailer you purchased it from, I'm sure they would RMA it.

Thankfully it's OcUK so they should be all good about it.

As a side note, I plugged the drive into a separate PSU and I could hear the noise it makes a lot easier.

Click, click, bzzzzzzzzzz (platters trying to spin). Keeps looping around like that with half a second gap between.
