This morning i siwtched my computer on and it won't post. The green light on the mobo is on but when i press the powerbutton the hard drive/busy light goes orange, all the fans etc... start going.

Taken out the CPU, Memory, Graphics Card, Hard Drive, CD Drive. All thats left is the mobo and hte PSU and it still won't post (with the same behaviour)

The board is a p5n-e sli.

In order for POST attempt to be possible you need to have at minimum:
-PSU
-motherboard
-CPU (for running the POST code in the Bios)
By implication you also need:
- speaker connected
- power switch connected
in order to make the attempt. When you make the attempt without memory or video, you'll obviously get error beeps due to the POST failing. That is a good thing with such a minimalist setup as it proves the CPU + mobo + PSU (and switch and speaker) is working. From there you can then incrementally add RAM and video etc. If this minimalist setup does *not* beep, then you need to establish which parts (mobo, cpu, psu and possibly switch/speaker) are not working by a process of elimination.

thanks for the tips.

i have a speaker connected to the mobo and with just the psu, mobo, cpu and power switch i get no beep.

re-set cmos and it still does it.

tested psu in another computer and it seems fine.
narrowed it down to mobo or cpu i think.
