Dead NIC port?

Hi guys.

Long story short - I updated my Vertex 2's FW to 1.32 yesterday using PartedMagic. Booted into Win 7 and realised there was no network connectivity on lan1. Lan 2 works fine, which is leading me to suspect either dead port, or me inadvertently doing something stupid with PartedMagic.

So far I've tried:
  • reinstalling NIC drivers
  • new cable
  • different port on router
  • system restore
  • clearing CMOS
  • resetting router
  • manual IP address
  • disabling Comodo
  • Windows network troubleshooter

If I run lan1 in 10mbps mode, it connects to the network and internet. If I run it at 100 or 1000mbps, it constantly tries (and fails) to connect to the network.

Lan2 works perfectly, but I'm worried that the controller might be on the way out

Any suggestions?

Cheers!

i had similar issues when I first built my i7 system, unplugging the PSU from the mains for a short while seemed to reset whatever was causing the lan port not to work properly, I had tried most of what you mentioned as well and was close to requesting a RMA.

After all that, looks like a metal strip on the side of the port was shorting it. Removed it and it's working perfectly again. No idea why it picked that moment to kick off...
