Hey guys, today I’ve had a problem with one of my HDD’s and I’m wondering if any one may have some tips to bring it back to life, even if only long enough so I can get the data off it.

When I tried to access the drive it was very slow to load up the default dir, and when trying to access a folder it would crash explorer I did manage to get past the default dir without it crashing only for it to crash on the next folder, Which is why I hope there is still a chance I can recover all my data.

When I checked temps my HDD’s were around 42-44c, normally they would be around 28-32c. Due to me slacking on keeping dust filters clean :/

Anyways if any one has any tips that could help me recover / backup the data on the drive it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

also the drive is a - Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB, and is 3 1/2 years old and the rig it is in is left on almost 24/7

tried to clone the drive/data to another hdd? you wouldn't have to acess the drive then, only the software would to clone it

try macrium reflect

Use Unstoppable copier instead. Recently used it for this exact same reason.

Set it to one retry and go ahead.

Tick the log file too

This has helped me tons of times with other people's broken drives.

It's made for copying info from bad CD's, but works great on hard drives. Some of the drives it's worked with, wouldn't even open in explorer if I went to open the drive letter!

Can be easier to get it to work if it's in an external drive, if the drive goes offline, you can just turn it off and back on again.

i took the drive out yesterday, put it back in today to try the suggested things, lucky for me, the drive was working again and i manged to get all my data off it.

my opinion is that it over heated. soo now im unsure if its safe to use day to day.

might try get an external caddy and use it as a backup or something, saves just getting rid of the drive.

So thanks for the responses !
