Took the side panel off my PC case to install a new 120mm fan. Bit fiddly, but got it there in the end.
Reconnected all wires and plugs etc.
Booted up ok, except I now had a very high pitched noise coming from the speakers.
Decided to open up the case to see if I could see a problem. I noticed that a cable from my soundblaster audigy 2 zs (see pic) although connected to the sound card, had become disconnected from the DVD ROM.
I decided to remove it and then refit it. As I pulled it through the mass of wires in the case the PC suddenly died.
I finshed pulling the wire out, and attempted to re-start the PC.
For a brief quarter-of-a-second (approx!) the fans start to spin, but then nothing. No mobo beeps at all.
The light on the motherboard is lit. If I try to re-start again, there is nothing. However, if I remove the plug from the wall and wait 10 seconds, reconect, and try again, I get the 0.25 second fan spin berfore silence.
I am assuming it is either the PSU or the Mobo that have died. The PSU is only a few months old and is a Corsair hx 620
The mobo is an Asus a8r32-mvp.
This system has been relatively stable since installing the new PSU. However I had begun to notice that the PC would intermediately freeze then re-set about once or twice every 24hrs, usually accompained by a stange noise from the speakers.
I have taken the soundcard out and attempted to restart, but still nothing. I have attempted to restart with no power to the HDDs or DVD-ROMs but again nothing.
Apart from buying a new system, which I can't afford, how do I determine what the fault is?
Many thanks in advance.
Hussman.
