Hi All,

Sat here on my Surface looking at a dead box which was my PC. this will be a bit of a long post as i want to try and explain what has been happening for a while and now that its dead i have nothing much else to do.

so for about a 6 months i have been unable to launch my PC with the on switch, i have had to wait for about 30 mins before it would start up, this then became longer and longer until i had no other choice but to keep the power always on to the PC so i could start it straightaway. this has been fine for a while it was fine yesterday but today it has not switch on no matter what i try.

a few things to note, before on at least one occasion i had this same issue it would not switch on. i had just bought a brand new Wacom tablet which was connected to the USB port. after removing it from the usb port it then booted no bother. so i have a feeling it might be something to do with the power on the MB. but im not sure.

so far today i have removed all the USB connected devices and have been trying to get it running with no success. does anyone have any ideas on what this could be? the PC works fine when booted its just the starting up where the problem is.

Any help would be appreciated. i am planing to buy a brand new system this year but was hoping to at least hold out to the latter part of the year and after Computex.

Thanks to all in Advance! :D

Paul

btw my motherboard is an oldie a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7

and now its booted. but would still like somethings that i could check with it to try and get this fixed.

no i dont have anything spare to test that with. its a Be Quite Dark Power 850w Pro Modular PSU
why do you think it could be the PSU if you don't mind me asking?

It does sound power related, how old is the PSU? I wouldn't mind betting it's the motherboard on the way out, X58 is ancient now and caps could be getting poor on the board. The best option is to get a cheap PSU (Not so cheap that it risks the build though) and try it, I've been keeping a CX750 just to test with after having issues with a PSU myself.

I remember one of my very old shuttle PC's having a problem the same as this...

I would press the power button and then the system would boot up anywhere between 30 seconds to 20 minutes after I pressed the button..:p I fixed it by replacing the PSU

ok thanks guys. least its some where to start. probably going to hold out for a new PC and replace the PSU with some cheap deal later. or take it apart and make it into a mini PC

Same with a really old system I had. I spent a year putting up with it, unplugging peripherals before switching it on etc, new PSU fixed it. It sounds exactly like PSU issue.
