My fabulous ship
Well Im a very open minded person, jokes about someone that just died really wouldnt bother me (e.g jade) but what I have learned is that a joke about a dead person really in general doesnt go down well with general joe.

You guys get easily offended by a joke?
I've noticed that girls get WAY more offended (and gay guys so Im putting it down to hormones)

I think it depends on the person. But people on these forums do tend to have "looser" morals than the average Joe, so probably don't feel pangs of guilt that the average Joe would feel.

Looser morals? I disagree, a lot of people on here probably have more morals than most.

I think people on here just learn to stop giving a damn about things that don't really matter and/or just learn to stop taking things so seriously.

I wonder how many people in fact, get offended simply because they think they should rather than because they are.

I don't look on jokes about the recently deceased especially fondly, but I'm not going to throw a fit about them either; they're just jokes afterall.

True. One thing is for sure, don't post any jokes of jade goody on facebook unless your friends are all male got quite annoyed with one girl cos she went from saying jade made one mistake to saying I'm calling everyone a racist LOL all I did was post a video of jade giving shilpa abuse on my page :op

I don't take any offense from jokes about the deceased. As long as there is a clear boundary in your head between the joke and actually being incredibly sick then all is good.

I think it depends on the person rather than boy/girl.

For example, my gf howled with laughter for the best part of five minutes when I told her this joke:

What's black and needs pressing?

Liam neesons suit.

It only got a chuckle from me but christ it was like the coming of the second Jesus of humour to her.

Presumably we are talking about something like....

Actually I think it is quite funny.

Personally, I don't think a joke like this is offensive in Goody's case as she chose to have a high profile, media led death. A similar joke about a private, decent "nice" person - say Wendy Richards for example - would, I think upset me. This just goes to prove how difficult this subject is.

I think people who filter jokes through the "political correctness" filter and respond appropriately are missing the point. A joke is something unexpected and outrageous and a response to a joke should be visceral. If you have to think about a joke it isn't really a joke and isn't funny. It's just "clever". A genuine joke doesn't offend, even if it is barbed.

The modern trend by government to put certain areas off limit to jokers is appalling mind control and must be resisted.

Joking is a way of publically airing difficult issues, and trying to find ways of dealing with those issues. Congratulations again to our out of touch, interfering, witless government for stifling this important avenue of discussion.

PS: I didn't get the Liam Neeson joke above :(

I love offensive and sick jokes , I have a darkish sense or humour but I can appreciate some people do not like these kind of jokes and so I wouldn't repeat them unless I was sure the people I was telling them to were up for it.

The thing I don't like though is when people assume because you tell a joke about a certain subject that the joke is also your opinion

Quite a minefield this. It takes quite a lot for me to find a joke truly offensive, Personally I drew the line at a series of jokes about Madeleine McCann, but obviously there were many people who thought different.

There are quite a few jokes I feel a twinge of guilt about telling or enjoying, such as the Jade Goody ones, not that it stops me. The trouble is that even jokes that are in bad taste or offensive can actually be quite funny, the distasteful part comes from them referring to real people, although most of these jokes could be reworked by referring to the ubiquitous blonde stereotype or something.

Another problem is that people can quite often get sucked into some sort of moral superiority complex after an event, usually fuelled by the tabloids; World Trade Centres, Diana and, for some reason, Jade. There were a range of jokes after the world trade centre attacks and I remember laying into someone who told me one for it. Truth was I found the joke funny, but at the time I was in something of a keyboard warrior rage about the whole thing, as I think were most of the western world. I suppose it takes some people longer than others to clear that particular hurdle.

Nope, i find very little 'over the line'.

I liked this, from B3TA. :)

There is a time and a place to crack a joke that can be offensive, although it sometimes works at funerals. :)

There were lots of jokes cracked at my grandmas funeral, mostly about her , only one person wasn't amused and that was a great aunt of mine, she had a face on her like an arse, but generally most people joined in making fun of my nan and how she was when she was alive , she was a bit of a funny one :p

I can only guess my aunt found it offensive as she thought people had no respect for my nan but I thought that it showed more respect as they told it like it really was rather than make out she was some kind of angel
