Looks like my neighbour shot a pigeon off of the fence and it's landed in my garden, dead. How are you meant to dispose of a dead pigeon? Just bin it?

Throw it back in their garden? EDIT: Thought this was GD :p

I would just wrap it in a black bin bag securely and bin it though.

We put a dead one right at the end of our garden and the night time wildlife took it away pretty quickly! Felt better than dropping the poor thing in the bin.

Used gloves and wrapped it up in bags before lobbing it in the bin. If there's another, I will be taking it round to the neighbours..

more to the point why did he shoot the pigeon?

Because he's a ****.

Also, it's not a scruffy old town pigeon, i live in a small rural town with fields out the back of the house etc. It was more dove like than pigeon.. Looks like it was perched on the fence and shot in the back and fell into our garden about 2 foot from the fence. There was a small pellet like hole in it's back, otherwise looked fine.

This. When I found one in the back garden last year I just left the body out the front. Gone by the following morning, given that I've seen several Foxes patrolling my road at night for food & hearing them crying some nights too, not that surprised really.

I'd be more concerned by his shooting at it without ensuring he has a good backstop. If he's shooting it off the top of the fence the projectile used could pass through the target and go on to hit who knows what (a person, pet or object for example), or if he misses, that pellet will go and embed itself into whatever lies behind (a person, pet or object again!).

Shooting in this manner may also constitute an offence as his pellet (assuming its an air gun?) may be crossing the boundaries within which he has permission to shoot (unless you've given him permission to shoot onto your land?)

If it's not a scruffy town pigeon then it sounds like it could be a wood pigeon or a gray dove. Not a nice thing to do also I would be livid if a neighbour was shooting over my fence.

Poor thing, a cat killed a pigeon in our garden yesterday evening, at first I thought it was startled so tried to get it out of where it was hiding (it couldn't get out if it tried) and where it could get away but realised it was slowly dying by a large hole in its chest :(

OP go kill your neighbour.

If you're sure your neighbour shot it, throw it into their garden. It's their problem.

Or, for entertainment, take it to them in person and tell them if it happens again you're calling the Police. (Watch SWAT turn up to a report of a firearm.)
