Dead pixel - what to do?

How old is it exactly? If it's less than 7 working days since you received it there's the distance selling regulations. If it's over that then you can try phoning Viewsonic, they make take pitty on you, but in theory they won't change it for one dead sub pixel. However if you don't tell them it's a subpixel (which it probably is, but you'll know better than me about that) and just say pixel (they don't know whether you know the difference) they may change it.

There's a couple of programs you can run to try to kick the pixel/subpixel back into life, but someone else will have to post the links to those. That should be the first thing you try.

I've had my VA1912W for about 3 weeks now, and it had a dead pixel in the lower left of the screen. A little gutted tbh, as it was my debut move to TFT. My duff pixel shows light on dark surfaces, but is barely noticable during normal use. You may get used to it; I have. Cracking monitor for the money though!

bummer, theres probably a policy about having more than a certain amount of dead pixels,
i did a build for someone the other week, bought a samsumg tft 17'' from OC, had a dead pixel after 2 days
samsung said it had to be more than 5 and in certain places

:D best thing is to arrange a suitable funeral :D

still my xerox is still mint

Viewsonics policy is 1 dead pixel, give them a call on 0207 949 0307 they will arrange to drop off a replacement and pick yours up. I have the VP930 and checked this out with them. :)

djohn's not wrong... just checked Viewsonic's website:

ViewSonic VA Series LCD display products:
Note on Pixel Defect Policy:
For any sub pixel defect (red or green or blue) ViewSonic LCD display products are warranted in accordance with the ISO standard 13406-2 class II. On pixels ViewSonic exceeds ISO 13406-2 class II requirements not allowing for any defective (permanently dark or bright) complete pixel consisting of red, green, and blue sub pixels (“Zero Pixel Defect Policy”).

It is a sub pixel, its red on the darker colours. On white it cant be seen. So can i still call Viewsonic?

Or does anyone know where that software is? cos i cant seem to find anything

Thanks for all your help

LMAO!

If you ever get a dead sub-pixel, my advise is to.... 'massage' it!

Seriously, i was on another LCD tester page and the advise was simply to 'massage the pixel' - so i thought, its worth a shot...

<poke>

No more dead sub-pixel! I love living in this age of high technology!!

Found the link for that program I was on about, it's called Pixel Buddy-

I believe it rapidly changes colours on a small part of the screen, so you position it where your dead pixel is. Think you're supposed to leave it going for half an hour or so.

If that doesn't work you can try gently massaging the pixel with the end of one finger a little. Make sure not to scratch the screen though and don't put much pressure on.

Failing that call Viewsonic.
