What on earth is going on in this game?

Just got it, and i've found something more annoying than its V-Sync issues...the entire game itself.

I'm posting as i'm guessing i'm playing this game all wrong, everytime i die, i go back to the start, and after having to take out Carlito by myself as the DHS guy felt the need to run around the restaurant not firing bullets, then finding some punk with a camera who i want to hit severely, i went and got mowed down by a turret gun attached to a car in the park.

Bit of a severe learning curve, then to have to start again is beyond annoying. This is the 3rd time i've started afresh, i don't think i can be bothered for this to happen a 4th time.

Any pointers, am stuck.

You get to keep you're stats when you sstart a new game so it gets easier the more you play it.
Try doing some rescue missions first as that will get you levelled up more easily than the missions. Most people say that around level 12 is where the game starts to get a little easier/more playable, which I'd agree with.

What level is your character at?

I tried the demo, and it was fun beating up zombies for about 10 minutes. I then knew the game wasn't for me. Sorry for being no help whatsoever :)

You have to save the game in set locations, such as at the start or in WC's

I've done that, after bringing back the 1st guy on the roof, but when i died later on, it took me back to the start of the game.

About 3 or 4.

But what about the non saving though, why say you can save, then your game not saving at all, i dont get it?

There's also a save point in the gym, which is near the food hall, where the Carlito fight takes place. So you can save it during that fight and then you can jump straight back into the gun fight.

You just reminded me I need to sell this game. I got fairly high level but it just got so boring.

As for starting over, just choose to load from your last save, you'll lose any XP you gained but just make sure you save regularly.

I was in the same boat as you mate when i had my last Xbox this game is beyond me.

and trying to save people i found just about inpossable

You should be able to continue from your last save point.
Though it's been a while since I've played so maybe I'm not remembering it correctly. I'll have a look tonight and remind myself.

I just leveled up to about 20 by saving the couple on the rooftop and took the pic that gets you 5000 XP. I just kept doing it, saving - going back to dashboard then doing it again. It took about an hour or so but the game was so much better once I had done it

All i can say is...Don't give up!!!

It's horribly difficult at first, but what you gotta remember its part RPG, so you need to level up. Once you reach about level 20 -30, it gets easier.
There's two easy ways of levelling up, first is re-unite the couple on the roof (take a pic of them together too), and take them back to the security room.
The other option i've found easy to level up, is go to the car park, get in the car and head down to the underground. there's thousands of zombies waiting to be mowed down by your car, resulting in loads of levelling up.
Instead of worrying about finding a saveplace, just let some zombies kill you, then make sure you 'save status and quit', this will save your current level, and dump you back to the start.
I ignored the main game story, and done a mix of the above, and a few of the side stories (scoops) till i reached level 30, then started afresh on the main game storyline.
Amazing game, i really hated it at first though lol.

I'll remember these words next time i play.

So i should just muck about and level up as much as i can?

I take it i cant pick what levels, (like more speed) it just does it itself?

PS: What's the wife called and where can i find her to re-unite?

It has an old school save system which makes it more difficult (and better).

One of if the THE best game on the 360.

As people have said, play the game, do what you can, save who you can and when not if you die, save stats and restart. At first you won't be able to save everyone, you'll have to pick one or two up and listen whilst the ones ; those that you couldn't quite get to, scream as they get eaten.

Then you'll not be quite good enough to get to the straggler; do you let him go or risk your own life? Great stuff.

Play through a few times, you'll start knowing where and when to go, you'll lose a few and bump into a psychopath or two (boss). You'll now be a higher level and won't be dying so much and you might even finish the main story (well you'll get one of the endings).

Eventually, and knowing the story you'll have a go at trying to save everyone. From the guy hiding in the wardrobe to the guy being held captive by the deranged religious fanatics. Timing, planning, and a dose of good fortune and you'll manage it.

Stick with it. Go rent Dawn of the Dead (the Romero original) and watch it several times to get into the spirit. Curse, get angry, then get even by scything, mowing and chainsawing.

There are a couple of things once you know what you're doing that become invaluable and make the game a lot easier but I won't spoil it for you just yet.

Yes I did rescue all 50. I even had one go where I killed 53,594 zombies.

Did I say it may have been the best game? I've changed my mind; it is the best game.

Says the RPG nut ;).

From Dead Rising to Animal Crossing. Oh how the mighty have fallen...

Lol, shuush, you're not supposed to be telling people about that.

PS, I caught a Hammerhead shark last night! Woop!

Once you get addicted this is one of the most absorbing games ever. I actually found reading some advice on the Internet and forums etc very helpful to ensure I was picking up the right elements and following roughly the right storylines.

The basics are though when you first start you are a mere mortal with a camera...but, as you get into the game you level up and as such the Zombies find it harder and harder to hurt you. Three ways to level up fast:

- Kill zombies. Sounds obvious but the more you kill the more bonus you will get as you reach 1000 kills, 10,000 kills etc (There is an achievement when you reach ~53,000).

- Do the missions. The Carlito mission is tough, and its one of the early break points in the game. A bit of advice though, as you come into the main mall for the first time (from the warehouse where Brad, Otis and any survivors were), head right towards the flight of stairs in the corner of this part of the mall. Head up the first flight of the stairs and then jump onto the ledge above the toy shop...you will have to kill the zombies on the stairs first and it does take practice, but it is doable. Walk along the ledge carefully to the end and you will reach an UZI sub machine gun. Save the bullets for Carlito but he is very easy to kill with this. The UZI also respawns everytime you enter this area of the mall and is invaluable.

- Choose your route from the off. The first few plays through the game it is difficult to save all the survivors as you won't have the general lay of the land with the mall. Go for the story route and understand what the game is all about. Once you have completed the story route then go back and do a survivor run...you do not have to do everything in your first run through of the game. There is something like 6 endings and it is up to you which you pursue.

Hope this helps. I was addicted to this game for well over a month, think I have 42 of the 50 available achievements, and the only reason I havn't gone after the rest is largely due to you needing to sit at the Xbox for about 24 hours straight!

...One final thought: Adam's chainsaws rule (you will see this later).
